Innova’s telemedicine solution receives European ‘Excellence’ award

The Hipermed project which created a High Performance Telemedicine platform was given the silver award at the Celtic Plus Innovation and Excellence Awards 2014. Innova is part of the consortium worked on the project. Hipermed provides higher quality image transfers improving doctor-to-doctor or doctor-to-patient interaction and, by bringing together all client applications in one interface, it also offers a common infrastructure platform for all kinds of telemedicine applications. Hipermed makes it possible for patients to receive healthcare from doctors in other cities and even other countries without visiting the hospital.

A consortium of 17 companies from six countries (Spain, Turkey, Poland, France, Sweden and Israel) worked together to design a telemedicine platform that supports a range of different applications. The platform is intended to be open source, based on a unified Service Oriented Architecture that delivers media over IP using SIP-based control plane services and network services.

Innova’s involvement

As its contribution to the project, Innova developed an Android application scenario designed for use in the remote treatment of speech and language impairments. The remote speech therapy is designed for use by children with hearing loss, cleft lips or palates, brain damage, mental illness and delayed speech, as well as by adults with hearing loss due to aphasia or trauma.

Using the latest breakthroughs in audiology, the remote speech therapy takes approximately 30 minutes and is repeated twice a week. Since 70% of Turkish patients live outside the three largest cities and the existing therapy treatments are only available in a small number of places, the Innova application is a significant solution to a very real problem.
