Türk Telekom CEO Dr. Paul Doany said: “Teknoparks play a major role in the development of university-industry cooperation.”

In the speech by Türk Telekom CEO Dr. Paul Doany at the event he pointed out that technoparks play an important role in regional development and reducing the need to obtain the country’s need for advanced technology products from foreign sources and added “Turkey is advancing rapidly on the road to becoming an entrepreneurial paradise. Technoparks in particular play an important role in transferring the research and education strength of universities to information technologies and the communication sector and developing university-industry relations. The R&D work of our affiliates Argela and Innova, being conducted at a national and international scale in the ITU Arı Teknokent, receiving this award is a great source of pride for us in this aspect”.

Doany, who also provided information about the vision of Türk Telekom in the fields of R&D and entrepreneurialism continued as follows: “We as Türk Telekom believe that the only path to sustainable growth passes through producing new technologies and being innovative. We continue to invest in R&D and develop applications to guide the future with our mission to become Turkey’s leading communication technologies company. With the work we are accomplishing in our Türk Telekom R&D Center we are prioritizing the development of technologies that set the innovation standards of the future. As Türk Telekom we believe in the power of shared information and in addition to 5 university, 12 SME and 7 R&D centers we have cooperated with the EU and TÜBİTAK in various fields in 2016 with our Türk Telekom R&D Center in line with this belief. Last year we made 116 patent applications and signed off on 25 academic publications. With our MIT cooperation that we have been conducting for three years we are working in many different fields like the Google glasses and the internet of things (IoT) based smart home/city applications that touch the lives of our customers directly.”

“Our collaborative efforts and activities to produce national technologies will continue.”

Doany, “Argela is developing 5G technologies with domestic resources and Turkish engineering; the company is representing Turkey in global consortiums that set 5G standards in this field. 28 patent applications have been made to date to the US Brand and Patent Office with 5G and 5G activating technologies including ProgRAN, a technology the company has developed on its own. Also in Turkey’s first 5G Center for Excellence that we brought to life based on the vision that Turkey needs to be a country that produces and not just uses technology, our activities to produce and develop national technology through cooperation with universities are continuing.”

“Innova exports information technologies to 37 countries.”

Doany said “On the other hand Innova, the only company that has been in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Turkey Program 11 years in a row, makes major contributions to Turkey’s R&D export by presenting the innovative software solutions it has developed to customers in 37 different countries on four continents”.

Doany, who underlined the fact that ITU is a very reputable and significant institution that Türk Telekom has developed solid, long term relations with over many years, said “We believe that R&D and innovation work plays a key role in information economy. In this sense very close relations need to be developed with universities and open innovation needs to be encouraged. Up to now we have accomplished great work from social responsibility projects to the smart applications of 5G through our cooperation with ITU and we intend to continue this cooperation in the future”.
