As more people remotely access digital resources, more companies are utilizing secure access service edge (SASE) to centralize access in the cloud and streamline the design and enforcement of security policies. The SASE model adds more networking and security features to the SD-WAN network functionalities. Since this technology is still in its early stages, prospective students interested in a career in network security would greatly benefit from obtaining any SASE certification. We've compiled a list of the top SASE certifications to assist these professionals in improving their SASE game.

The SASE framework combines security and wide-area networking capabilities into a single cloud-based architecture. With SASE, you have a single comprehensive cloud service that handles everything rather than needing separate appliances or cloud services for SD-WAN, SWG (secure web gateway), firewall, CASB (cloud access security broker), IDS/IPS (intrusion detection system/intrusion prevention system), and VPN.

SASE made possible the worldwide private network of PoPs (points of presence). When users connect to that network, all SD-WAN and security features are automatically included in everything that follows. Generally speaking, the SD-WAN network and security features are expanded upon by the SASE paradigm.

Does SASE have a promising future?

SASE is still in its early stages, but getting trained in technology and earning a certification is never too early, especially if you want to specialize in networking. By 2025, the SASE technology sector will generate double-digit billion-dollar sales. Gartner predicts the SASE technology market to grow by 42% CAGR to more than $11 billion by 2024. At least 60% of businesses will have explicit adoption strategies and timelines by 2025. Employers will be assured of your SASE knowledge and that your networking and security abilities are current with market trends if you have a SASE certification.

Top Five SASE Certifications

SASE vendors and their training partners offer training for SASE. Here are five excellent training and certification resources to help you master this emerging technology:

Cisco's CCNP Security Certification and Training Program

The Cisco CCNP Security certification, while not specifically related to SASE, helps demonstrate your technical and networking security expertise across all Cisco networking platforms. The two exams required for certification are the core exam, which covers Cisco's core technologies, and the concentration exam, which covers a chosen security concentration.

To assist you in passing these exams, Cisco offers several courses in its certification training program. Implementing and Operating Security Core Technologies, the core training course for the Cisco CCNP Security Certification, is centered on security infrastructure and covers network security, cloud security, content security, endpoint protection, and detection, secure network access, visibility, and enforcement. Each concentration exam has a corresponding course that you can take to prepare for it.

You must pass the Implementing and Operating Cisco Security Core Technologies test to be eligible for the CCNP Security Certification. Passing this exam entitles you to the CCIE Security credential.

Palo Alto Networks Prisma Access SASE Security 3.0: Design and Operation

This course covers the Panorama Managed Prism Access SASE from Palo Alto Networks and how it offers network security services in the cloud. The Panorama implementation demonstrates how to safeguard mobile users, remote networks, and applications. Students will gain practical experience configuring, managing, and troubleshooting Prisma Access in a lab setting. The Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PSNSE) exam can be prepared for by taking this course in addition to other Palo Alto courses that are highly recommended.

Basic familiarity with cloud computing and the public cloud is necessary for this course. Additionally, participants must have passed the Panorama: Managing Firewalls at Scale course (EDU-220) and the Firewall Essentials: Configuration and Management course (EDU-210), both offered by Palo Alto, or have equivalent experience. One must have prior experience with routing, switching, and IP addressing to understand networking concepts. You must pass the Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE) exam to be certified as a Palo Alto Networks Network Security Engineer. This two-year exam lasts for 80 minutes and has 75 questions. The exam needs to be retaken before your certification expires to be renewed.

Versa SASE Essentials

Versa SASE Essentials is a self-paced, on-demand course that focuses on SASE deployment and design. In addition to learning how to switch from SD-WAN to SASE, students are given an overview of the architecture and characteristics of SASE and the connectivity options available to end users. The primary evaluation criteria for selecting a SASE vendor are also listed. This course is advised for those planning to take the Versa Certified SD-SAN Associate certification exam.

You must pass the 90-minute Versa Certified SD-WAN Associate Certification Exam to receive the digital Versa Certified SD-WAN badge (VNS100). There are 60 multiple-choice questions on this test. The validity of Versa Certifications is two years. Before your certification expires, you must retake the exam at the same or higher level to maintain your certification status.

Netskope SASE Accreditation

Netskope SASE Accreditation is an instructor-led, online course. Through real-world examples, case studies, and use cases, learners gain in-depth, practical exposure to SASE and how to develop it. The case studies are based on the Netskope Platform, even though the course is considered vendor-neutral. The primary technologies and models that make up the SASE architecture are covered in training. Students will learn how SASE can streamline their security stack while giving them more real-time visibility and actionable information about cloud services, activity, traffic, and data. Principles of networking and security should be understandable to students.

Students who successfully complete the course and obtain a passing grade of 80% on the 45-minute accreditation exam are awarded the SASE Accredited Architect certificate and badge.
