Sofra Budget Management Application


The Sofra Group, a leading food service and facilities management company with 15,000 employees, is now able to make use of instant and highly-detailed analysis thanks to a new budget planning and reporting system basedd on the Oracle Hyperion Planning application.

Sofra is one of Turkey’s biggest 500 companies, employing more than 15,000 people. It is jointly owned by the world’s leading food service and facilities management group, Compass Plc, and Turkey’s leading construction group, STFA Holding. Some time ago it began to look for a more effective approach to budgeting and reporting and for a solution to its requirement for instant risk analysis. After careful consideration, the company chose the Oracle Hyperion Planning application. It now boasts a new budget planning and reporting system that sets an example to the entire sector.

 

Sofra’s implementation of Oracle Hyperion Planning was carried out with support from Innova. The system now controls all of the company’s finances and expenses and gives access to instant and highly detailed analysis and reporting. More specifically, it helps to bring cost savings through a more rational use of resources, so that employees can now focus on interpretation and analysis instead of data entry, and are thus able to make decisions more effectively and quickly. In addition, the software also brings increased capacity for collaboration and integration, which helps to forge links easily between strategic financial and operational planning, meaning that teams in the field now work to clearer operational targets provided by the system. In addition, the system makes it simple to study direct and indirect costs.

 

The Oracle Hyperion Planning application is used by 80 personnel in offices throughout Turkey. At the beginning of the project, Innova carried out an initial analysis to identify the company’s needs, and later provided training to all 80 members of staff who were responsible for budgeting and reporting. At the end of the training all relevant personnel, from regional managers to directors, began to make budget entries into the system.

Thanks to Innova’s assistance, in December 2010 the Sofra Group also began to use Hyperion Planning’s reporting functions. Sofra has since been able to get easy access to any detail relating to budgeting, no matter how small. The company’s CEO, Zeynep Kazan, underlined the new system’s advantages saying, “Its reporting function is highly detailed. That means we have all the answers to the questions we are asked when we deliver our budget presentation. This was not possible before”.

 

The Sofra Group’s transition to Hyperion Planning also attracted the attention of its parent company, Compass. Kazan said that the leading global catering company had been searching for budget planning solutions for its operations in other countries and that its company’s financial controllers praised Sofra’s implementation of Hyperion Planning and began to use it as an example for the other countries.
