T-BANK Human Resources communicates news and announcements to all employees in a much easier and faster fashion through the intranet portal developed with SharePoint infrastructure.

T-BANK provides corporate banking, SME banking and retail banking services and grows rapidly with recent branches that it has opened. Having increased its total number of branches to 25 in 2008, the bank aims to provide the best service in Turkey in the medium-sized enterprises category.

 

Until today, T-BANK was using e-mail messages to communicate to its employees the information about legislative changes, in–house news and announcements. Thanks to the SharePoint in-house portal application implemented by Innova, T-BANK employees can now quickly access the information they need.

 

The in-house portal of T-BANK, Birlik-T offers different opportunities to the corporation's employees. For example, those who work in other regions can share social activities they organize with everybody and all branches. Through billboard, another interesting part of the portal, T-BANK employees can display advertisements on second hand products.

Internal Communication Through e-mail

T-BANK Management Services Director Dr. Hakkı Yıldırmaz explains that the bank had used traditional methods in their internal communication activities until now and described the problems they faced as follows: "We have 460 employees and 200 of them work at the General Management building. The remaining 260 people work in the field. And of course, reaching the whole team through e-mail creates many difficulties. There are legislation amendments that our employees must read and urgent announcements that we have to forward from time-to-time. However, e-mail messages can get lost among tens of e-mails that are received on the same day. Following the recent study we made regarding motivation and personal development of T-BANK employees, we had started to send messages that have an emphasis on professional life and personal development on Monday mornings, and messages with more entertaining context on Friday afternoons. However, we were still experiencing serious difficulties to ensure that these messages were being read. Since a large number of e-mails pile up especially during holiday times, the follow up of corporate references among tens of e-mails is quite a challenging task.… On the other hand, a source that you can access when you want and at your disposal considerably facilitate the process."

 

SharePoint Portal Solution

Dr. Hakkı Yıldırmaz states that they have decided to upgrade to a more professional environment so that the previous internal communication problems will come to an end. He explains the vision offered to them by Innova at the decision stage as follows: "People don't demand what they don't know and they try to maintain the status quo when you ask for a thing beyond their imagination. In short, getting used to and adapting to a novelty is quite demanding. We didn't have to make any additional effort to overcome this. We informed our management according to the solutions presented to us by Innova, and after we got the management approval we knew what needed to be done. Since Innova performs this task best in Turkey, the process developed smoothly and we started to work on it.

 

Expanding The Corporate Culture

When the in-house portal started to be used, it received great attention from T-BANK employees. Internal communication can now be maintained much more easily via the portal appearing on the screen prior to entering the banking system. In addition to in-house announcements; news from regions, birthdays, social activities and articles on personal development can be communicated to all employees much more easily and quickly. Dr. Hakkı Yıldırmaz says that all employees have adopted the portal in a short time and explains the benefits of this new development to the corporation as, "The portal principally increased the corporate loyalty in employees. For example, as human resources, we knew the birthdays of our employees and used to send "happy birthday" messages. But only that employee and the management were aware of this. However, with this portal, we gained the opportunity to easily announce birthdays to the whole bank and to all colleagues at the same time. Our main purpose here is to keep a high level of corporate loyalty. This aspect brings many advantages, and increases motivation and efficiency in employees."
