Innova Implements an ESIS Project that will Shape the Future of Energy Policies
As Turkey’s economy continues its upward trajectory, its energy needs are increasing dramatically. In order to meet this growing need it has become vital to make wise strategic and policy decisions based on accurate and up-to-date information. The ESIS project was thus launched in Ankara in March 2013 to address these needs and create a central energy information centre.
The ESIS introductory meeting held by Turkey’s Energy and Natural Resources Ministry (ETKB) was attended by senior managers of Turk Telekom and Innova, including Turk Telekom’s CEO, Hakam Kanafani, who underlined the importance of the ESIS project for both the IT and energy sectors. Mr Kanafani made clear that “ESIS is a visionary project. It is of great importance not only for Turkey but also for the rest of the world.”
The substance of the ESIS project is the establishment of an information network linking the ministry, its thirteen main institutions and fifteen other units, with all the actors operating the country’s energy sector. This network will collect data obtained from all the points where energy or other natural resources are supplied, produced, transported and consumed. In short, it will give direction and focus to the country’s overall energy policy.
The project developed by Innova for ETKB involves:
- A common energy data infrastructure that eliminates inconsistencies between ministerial and other relevant institutions.
- Providing a regular flow of data on the activities of all actors operating in the energy and natural resources sector.
- Supporting strategic decision-making processes with fast and simple access to data. Storing accurate and up-to-date data.
- Allowing ministerial personnel to perform sophisticated data analysis.
- Standardising activities carried out within work processes in compliance with rules and regulations.
- Giving public access to transparent and secure data.
