A team of 250 employees from Innova were assigned to the biggest technology project realized in East Anatolia until today. 8 thousand hardware gadgets were installed at various locations in Erzurum, such as, at the ski runs and at the jumping towers. The scores of the competitions that were organized in 11 branches were successfully measured through the use of over 300 special score/time measurement sensors placed at 114 points. Additionally, in order to provide the information flow in Universiade facilities, more than 300 kiosks and digital signage gadgets and LED screens, of which the total size reached 500 square meters, were placed around various points of the city. Game Management System, which was designed for the control and exclusive management of the organization, was built and applied by Innova.

In discussing the value that the location of Universiade in Erzurum had for displaying the improvement of Turkish technology to the world, Innova General Manager Ümit Atalay said that they were honored to have the opportunity to present all of their IT solutions, from software and hardware to infrastructure installation and operation at the 25th World Student Winter Games.

Atalay continued: “We have submitted nearly 8 thousand hardware devices and gadgets in working state to facilities in Erzurum and the surrounding mountains. We developed a game management system, the first of its kind in Turkey, which was able to control the entire management of the games. We are very happy to have had the opportunity to showcase our competence in technology to the whole world thanks to this organization. Our goal at Innova is to provide turnkey integrated solutions in all industries, from sports and health, to agriculture and finance. We aim to provide the needs of our customers in the IT field, including communication, data center, process structuring, software and safety, using outstanding engineering power at the highest quality. As Innova, we have the know-how to provide all components in these integrated solutions. We will allocate all resources to convert this know-how to projects in 2011 with the same determination and persistence.”

In providing information on the technological infrastructure of the games, Erzurum 2011 Technology Group President Mehmet Özdemir said, “The technology infrastructure built for the Erzurum 2011 Student Winter Games is at the level of the Olympics, not Universiade. If there would be a demand to organize the Olympic Games at the same facilities just after the completion of the Universiade, Erzurum's technology infrastructure would be ready for that. The hardest challenge for us during the preparation of the technology infrastructure of the Erzurum 2011 Winter Games, the second and most challenging of multi-branched sports organizations, was to apply the latest technology to the harsh natural conditions of Erzurum. We established our project in this direction as Erzurum 2011 Technology Group and worked with Innova during the application process. The infrastructure of the Erzurum 2011 Winter Universiade consisted of several different and complex Technologies, from IP based full HD broadcasting, score result systems and IP phone, safety, information sharing and management automation systems to high capacity Internet, Digital signage and kiosk and giant screening systems (LED). We thank Innova for correctly understanding us and our project and for successfully carrying out the project.”

Organization was Managed with Software Support

A Game Management System (GMS) was used to provide computer support for all stages of participation of the groups in the events in the Erzurum 2011 World Student Winter Games. This system ensured the automation of all the needs of players, referees, volunteers and organization committees in Erzurum. All information of the players and referees, such as airplane tickets, accommodation needs, transfers, where and when they will compete, and their competition scores, which was registered over the GMS that manages the games with 17 modules, was maintained over this system. Also, the management of the operations, such as ticketing, catering, transportation and hotel reservations was realized over the system.

Special Team of 100 People from Abroad

Innova also managed on-site timing and the scoring solutions project of the games in Erzurum. 315 score/time measurement gadgets were placed at 114 points to carry out measurements for the 11 branches of the games. Thanks to the systems that were built, measurements such as the velocity the players reached during the games, how high they reached and how far they jumped, were carried out according to international standards. The obtained date was shared in a digital platform simultaneously with the Game Management System and communicated to live broadcasts immediately. A professional team of 100 people that had been assigned to several international games before came to Erzurum from Switzerland and worked in the field to support the Innova team in the operation of these special gadgets during the games.

Over 8000 Hardware Installed

Thanks to the works carried out for Universiade, the communication infrastructure at every point of Erzurum was restructured. The infrastructure was supported with energy resources, UPS, and generators in order be prepared for any problems that might occur. The installation of about 8 thousand hardware devices that use this infrastructure was carried out by Innova.

LED screens of 500 square meters in total and more than 300 LCD TV

All events, scores and notifications were displayed over more than 300 kiosks, LCD TV’s and giant LED screens placed at various points around the city. The total size of the LED screens that were placed at 18 points in order to provide live broadcasts was over 500 square meters. Live scores and organization information was displayed in all corners of the facilities through the use of LCD TVs and kiosks as well as LED screens. Content management of this central digital broadcast network, referred to as Digital Signage, was also operated by Innova.

Assist Support for Calls

A call center was also established for foreign guests that came to the city during the games. The call center, established through the collaboration of Innova and Assist, provided 24 hour service in 4 languages to all foreign guests from phone number 444 2011.
